The timeless African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child” is an Igbo and Yoruba saying that exists in many different African languages. This proverb is so widely used in Africa that there are equivalent statements in most languages, including “One knee does not bring up a child” in Sukuma and “One hand does not nurse a child” in Swahili. The saying is used in America as of 2015 to evoke feelings of community on the small scale as well as on the national and even global scale.

To this end, a crucial part of our efforts includes providing opportunities where people can come together from all areas of the greater Coatesville community to build up our youth and our city. The 19320 encompasses nine municipalities and although our townships may have different names, we share a school district and city with unlimited potential. Our community, like charity, begins at home and we build good neighborhoods when we ourselves decide that we will be good neighbors. If you are interested in being part of the village that is raising our collective youth and future leaders, we invite you to join us!
